Review of the game “The Binding of Isaac” or the story of how I fell in love with Indie.

Hello everyone friends!
How diverse is the world of video games?. AAA games with sometimes better graphics than the new Amazing Spider-man 2 trailer. B-class projects, sort of shooters for a few hours that don’t require much intelligence from you, just your reflexes are enough. RPGs in which, until the end of the game, you are required to bring boar skins and tusks. There are indeed a lot of games, but among all this, relatively recently, such a genre as Indie has appeared. A genre of original games that give creators the opportunity to say something important to them in very interesting ways.

Ask me what I’m talking about? But the fact is that just recently, I learned about a game called The Binding of Isaac, authored by Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl. And here, with your permission, I’ll tell you how I met Isaac. Just recently my iron friend completely burned out, this happens when all the wiring in the apartment burns out due to a voltage drop. I was quite upset, I only saved YouTube and a laptop, which was bought exclusively for study, yes, yes, precisely for study, in our time this happens. It’s not powerful at all, and I forgot about big projects indefinitely. But somehow, during a sale on Steam, this game was sold for a very small amount of money. The system requirements were small, so I decided. I’ll say right away that I’m not a big fan of Inde, but I take my hat off to this game, I haven’t seen such an exciting project for a long time. Now, let me tell you about the game, from the perspective of a person who, until recently, simply did not perceive such games.

The Binding of Isaac was born in 2011, by the man who gave us Super Meat Boy (Edmund McMillen). The game tells the story of a boy named Isaac, whose mother went crazy due to religious reasons and decided to sacrifice him. The main character needs to escape from his distraught mother and he has no choice but to escape from her into the basement, where various monsters are waiting for him, in every room he is haunted by fear and danger, which makes Isaac constantly cry and tears become his main weapon. The task is to complete all the dungeons to the very end and defeat your mother. But don’t think it’s easy, Isaac only has one life, and if you want to reach the end, be patient.

The Binding of Isaac features random level generation, but that’s not all the game has to offer. In fact, the game personally reminds me of an isometric Action/RPG, and all because in the process of passing, Isaac finds a large number of different items that will help him deal with the big and fat Bosses at the end of each level. But remember one thing, you just need to remember the effect of each item, because some have not very good properties. You will have to remember the action of each monster and boss in order to choose the right tactics to fight them and a strategy for subsequent rooms, if, for example, there are very few lives left.

What does Isaac use, you ask?? The wiki can answer you in detail; the properties of absolutely all items are described there, but I will tell you in general terms what items you can find in the rooms.

Artifacts – activated by pressing the https://jolibetcasino.co.uk/mobile-app/ spacebar, after use, reloading is required. There are both combat and auxiliary artifacts. They can be changed.
Passive artifacts – these artifacts increase your characteristics, increase the number of lives, the range of tears, damage. Artifacts last until the very end of Isaac’s adventures and can complement each other.

Tarot cards – dropped by enemies, can be found in rooms after clearing. Activated by pressing the Q key. They have various effects, from particularly useful ones that will help you in the fight against bosses and monsters, to absolutely useless ones, for example, they will move you from the room with the boss to the very beginning of the level, while the boss will restore all lives.
Pills are some of the weirdest video game items I’ve ever encountered. Pills can be found in chests, dropped from monsters, or after clearing a room. Activated by the Q button and if you have a Tarot card, replaces it. The effects of pills are always different, both positive and negative.

Items that you can find in each room:
1) Half heart – restores half health;
2) Heart – restores whole health;
3) Soul Heart – adds one additional soul heart, not replenished with ordinary hearts;
4) Key – opens golden chests, treasuries, shops;
5)Penny – gives 1 cent;
6) Nickel – gives 5 cents;
7) Bomb – will help in the fight against bosses, bombs are also needed to blow up stones, create bridges over chasms;
Also, at the levels you can find a store, a treasury, a battle room (challenge room), a game room, a room with a mini-boss, a secret room and a Devil’s room. First things first:

Shop – to open the shop you need a key, inside, the hanged man will offer you his goods, which can be bought for the cents you find, the items sold are always generated randomly. Sometimes in this room you can stumble upon a mini-boss.

Treasury is a room with useful and not so useful items. On the first level, you don’t need a key to get into the treasury. On subsequent levels, you won’t get in without a key.
Combat room (challenge room) – as a rule, there is always a chest in the center of the room, something useful will definitely be in the chest, after taking the item, the room closes and enemies appear in waves. After clearing the room, the doors will open.

Game room – you need a coin to get there, inside there will be a blood machine, a slot machine and a game of thimbles waiting for you. To play the slot machine you need a coin, this machine can drop bomb, coin, heart, key and flies. The donated blood machine gives you coins in exchange for your health. When playing thimbles, the player can get hearts, bombs, keys or a special item (if the player chooses incorrectly, a fly attacks). The slot machine and blood donation machine can be overfed and explode, giving Isaac useful items.
Mini-Boss Room – In this room you will face one of seven mini-bosses, each boss embodying one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Secret room – this room is not marked on the map, you can open it by accident, or stock up on bombs and blow up each wall, and the Moon map will help you get into such a room. Most often in this room there are cents. The entrance to the room is closed if you leave it.

Devil’s Room – available after destroying the boss, in it you will be offered to give up your lives in exchange for various items. The room closes when you leave it.

To sum it up, The Binding of Isaac is an incredibly exciting game. It’s varied, stylish, has great music, but most importantly, the game has an attractive charm that makes you return to the creepy caves more and more often in order to help Isaac get through all these horrors that befell the little boy. In 2012, The Wrath of the Lamb expansion was released and brought with it more than 100 new items, 5 new chapters, at least 20 new enemies, at least 15 bosses, 6 new types of rooms, 5 music tracks, 25 achievements, a new Challenge mode with 10 unique challenges, a new final chapter, new endings and much more.

Well, we will be waiting for the next addition to the game The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, which is being prepared for release in 2014. It is expected that the add-on will contain 16-bit graphics, local co-op mode, new items and much more. Will be released on PC, PS4, PS Vita.
